Wow! We have so much happening in December; it is absolutely going to fly by! This month, we will have a few holiday concerts to celebrate our incredible musicians, enjoy friendly competition at the Spelling Bee on the 8th, get creative with our Spirit Days, and have a few holidays surprises throughout the month.
On top of that, we have a LOT to learn. This month, things will be a little different, because we will be starting our Text Dependent Analysis lesson. This is a huge skill for our fourth graders, so we will spend extra time on this, to really make sure we feel comfortable with it. Text Dependent Analysis is a type of writing that requires students to use text evidence from one or more stories to prove their answer to a question. Throughout the year, we have been practicing restating questions and going back in the story to find reasons why we believe something. Writing a text dependent analysis is our next step! Last year, my class and I fell in love with text dependent analysis writings. They helped make the perfect graphic organizer to make it easiest, and most useful, for students. I am extremely excited for this year's class to find that same enthusiasm! Below is a link to the rubric used to grade Text Dependent Analysis writings. Questions about this, please ask! www.education.pa.gov/Documents/K-12/Assessment%20and%20Accountability/PSSA/Scoring%20Guidelines%20and%20Formula%20Sheets/English%20Language%20Arts/PSSA%20Text%20Dependent%20Analysis%20Scoring%20Guidelines.pdf On the home page of this site, I broke down the next three cycles. I will be sure to add more detailed information for each cycle in the emails sent by Mrs. Strayer. Let the fun begin!
