Great news! I have figured out how students can gain access to our Houghton Mifflin resources from home! Below are the steps students can take to access our Anthology from home. First, follow this link. www.thinkcentral.com Next, click on "Reading & Language Arts" on the top left. Once that opens up the options, choose the "Journeys" logo on the top row. Below is what your screen should look like. You will need to fill in these same things at the top, including "Glenn E King" for the school name. It will not let you login without this information. Student username and password are both nelunchnumber. For example ne12345 ne12345 ((These passwords can still be found on the inside cover of students agendas.)) To access our text book, students will then click "My Library". This will open up all of the options of resources we have for class. There is so much! Our anthology is "Journeys Student Book G4". The cover will look different, but the pages are still the same. Students will be able to navigate through the text using the table of contents.
Hopefully this helps! If my directions are not clear, please let me know! ((I would also appreciate comments below letting me know this does in fact work. I have been working on figuring this out for awhile now, so I am hoping it is right!)) Thanks for your continued support! Happy Monday!

Each day we review two new vocabulary words and make connections to these words. Today, one of our words was numerous. We talked about why we would like to have numerous crayons, socks, t-shirts, and pencils. Then we started talking about why we should read numerous books. I shared the picture below with the class, and we were pretty excited about just how many words we could learn every year with only 20 minutes of reading! They loved this picture so much, they asked me to share it with you on the blog! (See kids, I remembered!)
We are also full swing into our "Book Status" talks. I am absolutely LOVING the enthusiasm!! It is so fun to hear about everyones books, and to see that excitement in reading. I am hoping that after our talk about reading numerous books, I am going to see even more progress on their reading status! Book orders were sent home today as well! Talk about great timing! If you need another copy, please let me know, or visit scholastic.com! (Our code is J2GHR) Book Status
This year, we will be trying something new. This year, we will not be using reading logs. Instead, we will be doing something called "Book Status". Each day, a few students will tell the class what story they are reading, what page they are on, and what is happening in the story. I will keep track of page numbers, so I can see how much students are reading. By sharing our stories, it is my hope that students will hear about new books that sound interesting to them. We started our "Book Status" this week, and in just a few minutes can hear from 5 or 6 students! This week...I have a super special surprise coming that will make this even more exciting. Keep an eye, and ear, out to find out what it is! Homework and Spelling The ELA team looked at our reading program, and created a weekly homework assignment to help cover topics that previous students have struggled with. Each cycle, the page will look exactly the same, with the same activities for each cycle. This was done to help students use previous homework pages as examples and reminders. Each day, we will review homework to learn these skills. At this time, students are not expected to know these skills, but they are expected to try. Please review this page with your child each night. The back of the page can be used to study spelling words. Spelling Menus are available under the "Lesson Work" tab of this website if you are looking for new activities to do. As a team, 4th grade ELA has decided to use spelling as a time management and responsibility assignment. I will not be checking homework each day, I simply expect students to study these throughout the cycle and are prepared for their test on cycle day 6. If I notice a student is struggling on their tests, I will be checking their spelling practice daily. Google Classroom This year, I am really trying to use Google Classroom to help the students in my room. Each cycle, I will upload a Study Island assignment that will also show up when they log into study island. There will be a graphic organizer that aligns with our weekly story, and grammar videos and games to help students practice at home. I am still pretty new to Google Classroom, so we are all learning as we go. I am not entirely sure what parents can see from the parent page, but I also encourage you to have your child login to their account and show you what they are working on. (Their username and password is also in the front of their agendas!) I am already so impressed with the work they have been doing on Google Classroom already. I cannot wait to start our literature circles and writing projects on there as well! |
