Have you seen this little note yet? I have been passing these little notes out like crazy! As I "catch" kiddos going above and beyond, I write them a little note. These kids have been doing incredible things lately, and it is important to me to share these moments with you! It is my hope that these little positivity notes will help us build a happy classroom!
I always encourage students to share these little notes with you. I have seen a few students even keeping them in their binder cover sleeve. Keep an eye out for a note coming your way soon!

Yesterday, students completed our first lesson with Houghton Mifflin! Students took their comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and word work quizzes. After grading them last night, I was beyond impressed with how well they did! These quizzes can be quite challenging, so I was quite pleased with how well they did with this first lesson!
Confused with the "lesson"? Each cycle, students will complete a "lesson". This simply includes all of their comprehension, fluency, accuracy, reading skills, and grammar skills. All of this is focused around three texts that are on the same topic. I was ready to pass these back to students today and share in my excitement...until I got an even better idea on my way to school this morning! I want to make sure YOU are sharing in our excitement as well! Today, I started making assessment folders. After each lesson, I will put your childs graded quizzes in their folder and send it home with them. Inside will be a sign off sheet (see below). This is just to make sure that you are seeing all of the assessments your child takes. I ask that you review these with your child. I always attach their spelling packet and vocabulary packet to their quizzes so you can see the work and effort that your child put forth that cycle. Once you review those, they are yours to keep! If you have any questions, please write a note and send it back with the folder! I hope this helps keep you constantly up to date with the progress your child is making! Things are getting exciting in our class!! Literacy centers are one of my favorite parts about teaching ELA. It is important that we have centers that are worthwhile and helpful to our success in 4th grade ELA. I have been beyond impressed with how well these students have been working, especially at the writing centers! Below are a few pictures we have taken over the last couple days of practice. Why practice literacy centers?? One of our new mottos for this year is "practice like we play". When students are at centers, I will be meeting with small groups for guided reading. We know that it is important to not disrupt or distract the group that is working at the back table, so we need to practice staying engaged, focused, and quiet during centers. So far, we are off to an amazing start! |
